THE views of existing south east Warrington residents are being sought on an ‘extension’ of the area through new housing.

Homes England will be hosting drop-in sessions to engage with residents on sites allocated for new development.

The Government agency says it wants to ‘integrate new residential neighbourhoods with existing communities’.

In July, resurrected plans to build 250 new homes on greenfield land as part of Grappenhall Heys phase two took a step forward.

Redrow Homes has exchanged contracts with Homes England to progress the 30-acre scheme, with Warrington Borough Council ruling that an environmental impact assessment screening opinion is not required.

If approved, the aim is for building work to start in spring 2025, the first completion projected for early 2026, and final completion in 2030.

Housebuilder Bellway has also been granted permission to build more than 100 new apartments and houses off Rushgreen Road in Lymm.

While in March, Gladman Developments heard its development of up to 170 homes on land removed from the green belt, off Warrington Road in Lymm, was set to be approved.

Homes England says that its extension of south east Warrington, on land allocated for development in Warrington Borough Council’s Local Plan, has ‘sustainability at its heart’.

“The extension to south east Warrington will seek to integrate new residential neighbourhoods with the existing communities in and around Warrington,” a spokesman said.

“It will provide new homes and facilities that reflect the aspirations of the area and meet the needs of future residents.

“While Homes England is in the very early stages of this process, it wants to ensure there is an opportunity to understand what people want to see in south east Warrington, hence why people are encouraged to get involved in the forthcoming engagement period.”

Residents will also be able to ask about Homes England’s commitment to facilitating the delivery of a ‘comprehensive development’ at Appleton Cross Local Centre.

Adjacent to the recently completed Orchard Meadows development, the centre ‘provides a sustainable location for a new health centre, alongside other complementary uses that will serve the area’, Homes England said.

A spokesman added: “Homes England is committed to working with the community to understand residents’ views and local aspirations for the site.

“Meaningful engagement is at the heart of our approach to new development, and we would encourage people to have their say and help shape the plans.”
