A YELLOW weather warning for thunderstorms across Cheshire issued yesterday by the Met Office has been extended.
The alert came into force at 1am this morning (September 1), and was set to last until 9pm tonight.
The forecasting agency has now extended the warning, which will now last until midnight, as well as expanded the area it covers, mostly to the west, to cover parts of Wales.
The yellow alert covers towns across Cheshire, including Warrington, Widnes, Runcorn, Knutsford, Northwich, Winsford, and Middlewich.
Meteorologists says say there is 'a small chance of flooding and disruption from heavy showers', as a result of the thunderstorm.
Other areas of the UK, including much of central England, are also covered by the warning.
A Met Office spokesman said: "Our yellow weather warning has been updated and will now go on until 11.59pm on Sunday, September 1.
"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds."
