A Lancashire hotel has been named among the UK and Ireland’s best hotels to stay at this year in a list by GQ.
The magazine publisher said it had “scoured the country on the hunt for the UK and Ireland’s best hotels for your next mini-break”, sharing the results.
Moor Hall in Ormskirk is often picked out among the UK’s best and this is no different.
This establishment is a restaurant with rooms as opposed to a hotel but as somewhere that you can enjoy a cosy night’s sleep and feed on top grub, it makes the ideal spot for a break away.
It is less than an hour from Warrington.
Moor Hall among UK and Ireland’s best hotels to stay in this year
Moor Hall was described as being located in a “stunning countryside setting” and boasting an “impeccable refurbishment”.
GQ said: “When is a hotel not a hotel? When it's a restaurant with rooms, obviously. It's a small but important distinction for chef-patron Mark Birchall because, despite the stunning countryside setting, multimillion-pound renovation of a 16th-century manor house and an impeccable refurbishment by interior designer Martin Nealon, Moor Hall is first and foremost about the food.
“Having honed his skills as the executive chef at Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume for the best part of nine years, Birchall is a modern master of taste, texture, presentation and flavour.
“So much so that before Moor Hall’s first birthday he had already been gifted four AA rosettes and a Michelin star for his five- and eight-course tasting menus.
“Now, the restaurant holds two Michelin Stars, a Michelin Green Star, and five AA Rosettes, and was named the best restaurant in the UK at this year's National Restaurant Awards.

“It is a menu as immaculate as the precisely groomed grounds and walled gardens that surround the light and airy oak-framed dining room and certainly somewhere worth lingering.
“And, given that Moor Hall is a restaurant with a magnificent seven luxury rooms, and within easy distance of Liverpool and Manchester, you’d be a fool not to spend the night as well. Just don’t call it a hotel.”
Moor Hall is greatly praised on review sites such as Tripadvisor where visitors have shared their experiences when they’ve visited for food and stayed in one of the rooms.
The restaurant with rooms has a 5-star rating on Tripadvisor from 695 reviews, at the time of writing.
One visitor who dined in the restaurant said: “Service was impeccable without being stuffy as can be the case in some restaurants at this level- the staff were all friendly and happy to chat. Food was fabulous - great value set price menu. Restaurant is understated and classy and was very pleased to see every table full!”

Another said: “Absolutely outstanding in every way. We arrived for lunch and from the moment we entered the hotel we were treated extremely well. Staff were attentive and friendly without being overbearing.
“We were served some pre starters in the bar which set the bar high. We were then given a tour of the gardens and kitchen which was most welcome, before being shown to our table. Every course was stunning, flavoursome and exquisite. We were well and truly wowed!”
One reviewer shared their experience of dining and staying at Moor Hall: “An amazing experience from check in to check out, staff all very highly trained, professional but friendly, we stayed in a new garden room which was beautiful, we ate in The Barn on the first evening and food and service was excellent, breakfast was served here which was also excellent.
“We ate in Moor Hall restaurant on our second evening and what an incredible journey of food, we have dined in many Michelin Star restaurants but this certainly is up there as the best, 18 courses, some of which were bite size but all incredible, every course was described in detail by very knowledgeable staff. Faultless!”
