STUDENTS at Cardinal Newman High School received some of the best results in the school’s history after showing ‘real determination’.

Arriving to get their results this morning, Thursday, year 11 pupils were eager to find out what grades they achieved in their exams.

After working hard to prepare, the students managed to achieve some of the best results the school has ever had, with many of the teens making impressive progress since they started.

“Our students have conducted themselves impeccably throughout the exam season, showing real determination to achieve the best they are capable of,” said head teacher Jo Langstaff.

“Their commitment has shown in today’s results. Undoubtably, the hard work of our staff and the fantastic support from our parents and carers has contributed to their success today.

“We are really proud of our young people.”

Among the high achievers was Bethany Ellis, who earned two 9s, three 8s, a 7, two 6s a 5 and a distinction*.

“I wasn’t really nervous at first, but once I signed my name and got my results, I got dead shaky,” she said.

“But after I opened them, it was just a big relief as now I can go and do what I want to do.”

Bethany will now be attending Carmel College in St Helens to study history, politics and sociology.

Also receiving outstanding results was Ollie Bold, who worked hard to achieve four 7s, three 8s and a distinction*.

“I was nervous but also excited to get my results,” he said.

“I knew I’d worked hard and that whatever it said it wouldn’t matter. I’m proud of the work that I put in.”

Staff were on hand all morning to ensure each student received advice and guidance about their post 16 pathways.

“Our year 11 students leave us in a strong position to move on to the next stage of their education, whether this is taking up a place at a sixth form college or securing an apprenticeship,” said Deputy head teacher Helen Pinnington.

“We wish all of our students every happiness and success as they leave us to pursue new opportunities in September.”
