BIRCHWOOD Community High School’s ‘resilient’ students achieve incredible GCSE results, after persevering through a ‘difficult time’.

Despite facing significant challenges over the past few years, including the loss of a beloved classmate last August, students at Birchwood High School celebrated their incredible results.

The students gathered in Birchwood High this morning, Thursday, with a whopping 207 of the grades achieved by students being a grade 7 or above.

It was a relief for pupils studying acting and dance, as 100 per cent passed and 40 per cent achieved a Level 2 distinction in both subjects.

An impressive 63 per cent of students passed their English exams, and 66 per cent passed maths.

“We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements this year,” said head teacher Emma Mills.

“These results are a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and the strength they have shown during such a difficult time. They have shown a maturity beyond their years.

“We are also grateful to our dedicated staff and supportive parents, who have played a crucial role in helping out students reach their full potential.”

Head girls, Olivia Burrows and Lavinia Burcea saw amazing grades, with two distinction*, three 9s, three 8s, seven 7s and four 6s between them.

“I’m really happy,” she said.

“I was just in shock when I saw my grades, especially history – I wasn’t expecting a 9!”

Birchwood High School saw students achieve 32 grade 9s between them – four of which went to Alfie Allen whose mum cried with pride when she saw his grades.

Alfie, who will be going to Priestley to study physics, maths and chemistry and classical studies, also earned two 8s, two 7s and a 6.

“As our students embark on the next stage of their education or career paths, we are confident that the resilience, empathy, and determination they have developed will continue to serve them well,” said Emma.

“They leave us not only with excellent academic qualifications but also with life skills that will help them navigate the challenged ahead.

“We remain committed to supporting every student in achieving their best, academically, and personally.

“We look forward to seeing the continued success of our students as they move on to further education and beyond.”
