A PUB in Warrington that recently announced it would not be serving food until further notice has been hit with a one-star hygiene rating.

The Farmers Arms, on Fearnhead Lane, was visited by inspectors from the Food Standards Agency on July 10.

Upon their latest inspection, it was found that the pub requires ‘major improvement’ and a one-star hygiene rating was given.

The ratings are issues by the Food Standards Agency and are publicly available online.

Ratings range from five, very good, to zero, requires urgent improvement.

The Food Standards Agency does not disclose the full reasonings behind the rating but does reveal general areas requiring improvement.

While inspectors found that hygienic food handling was ‘generally satisfactory’ it was found that the cleanliness and condition of the building and facilities 'require improvement'.

The management of food safety, including evidence that staff know about food safety and that checks are in place to ensure food is safe to eat, was found to require ‘major improvement’.

On Wednesday, the Farmers Arms announced in a Facebook post that it would not be serving food until further notice.

It said that the decision was ‘for the best’ due to it being under new management.

“Until we can get the right team and systems in place to hopefully relaunch with a bang!" the post reads.

“Better than ever, watch this space.”
