THE owners of a village pub have confirmed that it is currently closed.
Punch Pubs and Co says that the Pack Horse pub in Culcheth is not open at present.
In September 2022, it was reported that the Church Lane venue had been listed on the market for lease, with an asking price of £60,000.
According to Zoopla, the average price of a property that has sold in the past 12 months on Church Lane is £392,500 - more than six times over the asking price for leasing the pub.
It was said to be the oldest pub in Culcheth, dating back to the 1700s.
The pub is currently listed on the Punch Pubs website for tenancy, with rent listed at £823 per week.
The listing reads: “Situated in the beautiful village of Culcheth on the outskirts of Warrington, the Pack Horse is a popular traditional pub.
“Now is an excellent time to take over the Pack Horse. We are investing internally and externally, incorporating a commercial kitchen enhancement to reintroduce a full-time food offer.
“Guests love the enclosed beer garden and large car park. The pub also has the advantage of a significant frontage shared with the local church.
“There is a spacious open trade area with three parts that you can easily separate into zones for different occasions. Plus, there is a function room upstairs.
“We are seeking an experienced publican who is passionate about traditional home-cooked food and running a village-style pub.”
A spokesman for Punch Pubs and Co said: “We can confirm that the Pack Horse pub in Culcheth is currently closed.
“We are recruiting new publicans to oversee the long-term success of the pub and hope to welcome the community back through the doors in the coming weeks.
“We encourage anybody interested in this opportunity to contact our recruitment team on 01283 501999.”
