A NEW exhibition is set to open in Lymm next week exploring the history of a key site in the heart of the village.
Lymm Heritage Centre has announced that it will be launching the new exhibition next week.
The centre, which sits in the heart of Lymm just off Bridgewater Street, showcases the history of the village, and the new exhibit will be no exception.
Memory Banks will highlight the history of the former Barclays Bank building on Eagle Brow.
The exhibition, which will span across 200 years of the site’s history, covers the arrival of businesses and banks in the village.
As previously been reported by the Warrington Guardian, the site of 4-6 Eagle Brow is currently undergoing a major refurbishment to transform the disused bank into a retail unit.
Work began on the building earlier this year, after a planning application was submitted for the Grade II listed building in 2023.
A huge effort has been made by developers to ensure that the refurbishment matches the appearance of the rest of the village.
“We’re trying to bring back a lot of the buildings history really,” said Roger White, co-owner of Roger White Ltd.
“The building was an eyesore, and we want to make it in keeping with the village.”
While the works continue, the exhibition will be opening on August 15 and free to view every Thursday to Sunday, between 12pm and 4pm.
“The site is currently undergoing a major refurbishment that will return its appearance to something akin to the building that was demolished nearly 50 years ago,” the description for the exhibition reads.
“It's a great opportunity for us to reflect on how a community's needs and preferences drive change.
“Come along and discover 200 years of history on the site of the old Barclays Bank and its surroundings.”
