INSPECTORS have heaped praise on an out-of-school-hours club following a routine visit.

Representatives of Ofsted paid a visit to Cookies Link Club, based at Tim Parry Community Centre in Great Sankey.

A report of the inspection was published recently, in which Ofsted stated that children arrive at the ‘well-organised’ club with excitement.

“They are aware to store their bags and coats at their base table which gives them a sense of belonging,” it read.

“Staff act as good role models as they help the children to develop respectful relationships with one another, acting in a warm and genuine manner.

“Older children are allocated a ‘buddy’ child who they help to settle in. Children are greatly supported to develop thoughtful and positive behaviours.

“Children’s views are listened to, through surveys which indicate to staff what they like and dislike about the club. Staff always act on the feedback provided by the children.”

Inspectors highlighted that during outdoor sessions, staff provide a range of physical play equipment, such as bats, balls and ribbon streamers.

This helps the children feel relaxed and wind down after school, it was commented.

Staff have also completed required training such as paediatric first aid, safeguarding as well as food hygiene.

Strong partnerships with the parents are established from the very beginning, and parents have commented that they see the staff as ‘an extension of their family’.

Every session includes a relaxed activity that staff members conduct to supplement what students learn in class.
