WARRINGTON literature festival continues to go from ‘strength to strength’ as hundreds attended events in June.

Lit Fest, which takes place once every two years, was originally launched in 2022 by LiveWire and takes place in libraries and other community buildings across the borough.

This year’s event, which took place throughout June, has been deemed a huge success, with more than 700 people attending the headline events, and a further 200 dropping into community libraries to take part in themed activities.

“Warrington Lit Fest continues to go from strength to strength and I’m thrilled that this year’s celebrations have been a big success,” said Cllr Tony Higgins, Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for communities, culture and leisure.

“It’s enabled us to introduce many more people – of all ages – to the joy of reading and the wonderful world of literature.”

Across the four weeks, Lit Fest explored four separate themes including children, culture and inclusivity, local authors and crime reading, offering a variety of literature, talks and workshops.

“Extending the festival from the one-week celebration we held in 2022 to a full month this year has proved to be a very successful move, with more people than ever engaged in activities and events,” said Tony.

“The range of activities on offer, from children’s storytelling and performance to creative writing workshops and author talks, has captured the imagination of people across our communities, which is great news.

Highlights of the festival included Firefighter Storytime with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service at Great Sankey Hub and an exhibition and author event hosted by internationally renowned writer from Lymm, Martin Edwards.

He added: “I’d like to thank our dedicated library staff, along with all of our partners, whose hard work and enthusiasm have been instrumental in engaging almost 1,000 local people in the celebration.

“I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2026.”
