A CALL has been made for the council to address an issue of paths ‘shrinking’.
The issue has been reported at Sankey Valley, next to Bewsey and Dallam Hub and running behind the church on Longshaw Street.
Grass is said to be overgrown, which is eroding the walkways.
One resident said the area is ‘neglected’ compared to other parts of Warrington.
The said: “As a Dallam resident, I find it hard to understand how our council works.
“We in Dallam struggle to get this path restored to its original width of five or six feet.
“It was so overgrown I contacted the council about it, and its response was to get the grass cut.
“As it stands, this path is inaccessible to wheelchairs, mobility scooters and probably pushchairs.
“My point is if someone should have a fall on this path, the council would possibly be at fault for failing to maintain a public footpath, and be open to being sued.
“But if you live in Lymm and your cobble stones need replacing – no problem, we can do that, as per the story in the Warrington Guardian.
“Dallam has suffered with neglect and continues to do so by the council.”
In response, a Warrington Borough Council spokesman said: “We are aware that paths in the greenspace near Bewsey and Dallam Hub have become thinner over time.
“Works to address the path edge vegetation in this area have been programmed.”
