CANOES belonging to Warrington Youth Zone to help youngsters in the town get into canoeing have been stolen.

The canoes were being stored at Warrington Borough Council’s depot on New Cut Lane in Woolston.

Thieves cut through the fence overnight between Wednesday and Thursday to steal the canoes.

Cheshire Police has confirmed it is investigating the incident, while Warrington Youth Zone has appealed for people to keep an eye out for them so they can be returned.

The force’s Rural Crime Team said: “Two distinctive Hou canoes have been stolen from Warrington Borough Council’s depot in Woolston.

“The offenders gained entry to the site by cutting through a fence before stealing the two canoes.

“The theft occurred overnight between Wednesday, July 31, and Thursday, August 1.

“The canoes belonged to Warrington Youth Zone and were indented to provide young people with new opportunities.

“The canoes are obviously very distinctive and are in fact limited edition models, so we are hopeful they can be tracked down.

“Please help us by sharing far and wide, particularly within any canoe based social media groups.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone who was passing through the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, or anyone who has any information that would assist us with tracking the stolen canoes and offenders down.

“If you have any information please call Cheshire Police on 101 and ask for it to be raised with the Rural Crime Team.”

Warrington Youth Zone added: “Please help. Two of our brand new canoes were stolen from Warrington Borough Council’s depot in Woolston.

“They are very distinct, 15-foot-long Canadian canoes in purple, made by Hou and branded with Vimto logos.

“These are the property of Warrington Youth Zone and are used to allow children and young people from across the town to access canoeing.
