WARRINGTON has seen a huge increase in parking fines, according to latest data from Warrington Borough Council.

The data, which was released under the Freedom of Information Act, revealed that a staggering 13,454 parking fines were issued on roads across Warrington.

This is an increase of nearly 30 per cent from 2021, which saw nearly 3,000 less penalties handed out.

These fines were issued for a range of reasons, including parking without displaying a valid ticket and parking in a disabled bay without a blue badge.

The street that saw the most parking fines issued in 2023 was Barbauld Street, with 873 fines handed out.

This huge number was nearly 200 more than Palmyra Square North, the second highest with 620.

Not only was Barbauld Street significantly higher than any other road in Warrington last year, but it also saw an 87 per cent increase in fines from the year prior.

According to the most up to date data from Warrington Borough Council, 295 fines have been issued on Barbauld Street so far this year.

The Forge Street Car Park saw the third highest number of fines, with 603, but this was a 34 per cent decrease from 2022, which saw a staggering 919 fines issued.

The car park, which is in Stockton Heath, was also the worst for parking fines in 2021, with 785, the vast majority of which were for parking without a valid ticket.

In the past four years, The Forge Street Car Park has seen more penalties issued than any other part of Warrington with 2,577 fines.

Radnor Street, which is round the corner from Warrington Hospital, has seen 303 fines issues between January to June of this year.

Of these fines 282 were for a code 12 contravention, which is when a car is parked in a residents or shared use space without a relevant permit.

There were 70 streets in Warrington that only received one fine last year, including Alder Lane, Thelwall Lane and Time Square.
