THE mammoth efforts of a man who turned his life around after a heart attack have been praised.

Chris McHenry has earned a spot in the Man of the Year national finals after losing four-and-a-half pounds through Slimming World.

The competition is voted for by their group members and the Burtonwood Slimming World group, with Chris winning unanimously.

Throughout Chris’ 30s, he dealt with stress in his personal life alongside extremely high cholesterol, which resulted in a tragic heart attack at just 34 years old.

Following his health troubles, Chris joined the village Slimming World group to improve his physical health.

Due to continuing stress and the extra challenges that affected his life throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, he struggled to make his group sessions, and his weight and health issues returned.

But after his heart surgery, Chris took the brave steps by rejoining Slimming World, and he has since got his life back again.

He is four-and-a-half stone lighter, healthier and stronger – not just physically, but also mentally.

He has become a fantastic cook, regularly sharing meal ideas with others who attend Burtonwood Slimming World, and he also plans to climb Mount Snowdon, which he never thought was possible.

Emma Dewan, a consultant for Burtonwood Slimming World, said: “We absolutely know from our research that within six weeks of joining Slimming World, and discovering the power of being part of a like-minded group, 92 per cent of men would recommend Slimming World to a friend or colleague – and our Chris most definitely would.

“After surgery to his heart, Chris knew exactly what to do and he took the brave steps through my Slimming World group doors in Burtonwood, and he has never looked back.

“He is a true inspiration, and thanks to food optimising with Slimming World, he has his life back again.

“So many people might still carry the misconceived notion that Slimming World is not for men, so to see Chris succeed so well in his journey and be recognised as one of the nation’s best fills me with pride.”
