A NUMBER of disturbing crimes were reported on by the Warrington Guardian this past month.

We take a look back at some of these frightening incidents reported to police in the town over the past few weeks.

Here are 10 such incidents reported on in Warrington during the month of July:

Police make manslaughter arrest after pensioner dies on bus

A MAN was arrested by police on suspicion of manslaughter after a pensioner died on a bus in Orford.

On Saturday, July 13, Cheshire Police received reports of an altercation between two men on the number 20 bus on Cotswold Avenue, travelling from Warrington Bus Station to Poplars Avenue.

A 74-years old man collapsed and was taken to hospital, where he sadly died, with a 48-year-old man arrested and released on conditional bail.

Suspect charged with four counts of raping teenage girls

POLICE have named a suspect charged with four counts of rape against teenage girls.

Macauley Ellis, aged 19 and of Leicester Street in Whitecross, is alleged to have committed the sexual offences against two girls aged 16 or under.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Liverpool Crown Court in August.

Charge over alleged attempt to stab policeman with screwdriver

A SUSPECT has been charged over an alleged attempt to stab a police officer, who thankfully was wearing a protective vest, with a screwdriver.

The charge relates to an incident on Sankey Street in Warrington town centre on Thursday, June 27 during which officers from Cheshire Police completed a stop-search.

Pranas Zaliauskis, aged 32 and of Lovely Lane in Bewsey, was charged in July to appear before Liverpool Crown Court.

Rape charge after woman dragged into bushes

A WARRINGTON man was charged with rape and intentional strangulation by police officers investigating an incident in London.

At 10.25pm on Thursday, June 27, a woman in her 20s was found partially clothed in Manor Park Gardens, Edgware, who said a man jumped out, dragged her into a garden and attacked her.

Metropolitan Police arrested a man in Warrington days later, with 26-year-old Kyle Kinsella, of Arlington Drive in Penketh, charged to appear before the crown court in July.

Police warn parents in hunt for prolific online paedophile

A HUNT for a prolific cyber paedophile targeting children in Warrington saw detectives issue a warning to parents.

Cheshire Police was contacted by a concerned parent who reported their 13-year-old daughter was being groomed on social media.

As a result of the report, officers discovered that the man also appears to have been in contact with at least six other children via social media.

Arrest after two Ryanair pilots killed in horror M62 crash

A HGV driver was arrested after two Ryanair pilots died in a horror crash on the M62, with their taxi driver also seriously injured.

At 5.31am on Thursday, July 11, Matthew Greenhalgh and Jamie Fernandes, captain and senior first officer respectively for Ryanair, were travelling by taxi along the M62 near Burtonwood.

A driver of one of the two lorries involved in the collision, a 61-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by driving and released on conditional bail.

Teen in drug driving arrest after traffic light smash

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a crash involving traffic lights.

Officers from Cheshire Police closed Wilderspool Causeway at around 11.30pm on Friday, July 12, at the junction with Loushers Lane and Gainsborough Road.

This came after a car, a black Volkswagen Polo ‘wiped out’ the traffic lights, which came to rest on the windscreen of the car and caused extensive damage to the front of the vehicle.

CCTV appeal launched over fight after Euro final

POLICE are appealing to identify three people following an altercation in Warrington town centre after the Euro football final.

The altercation took place on Bridge Street at approximately 4.50am on Monday, July 15 – hours after the European Championships 2024 final.

During the Warrington altercation, a 26-year-old man was assaulted by three unknown men, suffering minor injuries.

Theft of 75 chairs and stools from bar sparks CCTV appeal

POLICE issued a CCTV still of a man they wish to speak to following the theft of chairs and stools from a bar.

At around 7am on Saturday, June 19, two unknown offenders stole approximately 30 chairs and 45 stools from Savannah 19 bar on Common Lane in Culcheth.

The bar has since closed down due to the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis ‘taking a toll’ on the business.

Charges over church burglaries and alleged charity fraud

A SUSPECT has been named by the courts after being charged with burgling five different churches in the space of a month.

Bradley Higham, aged 46 and of no fixed abode, but of Runcorn, has been charged with six counts of burglary with intent to steal, seven of fraud by false representation, one of theft by finding and two of breaching a criminal behaviour order.

A separate incident saw 56-year-old Nigel Garner, of Park Lane in Higher Walton, charged with defrauding Halton Haven Hospice of almost £7,000 by abusing his position.
