AN ACAPELLA group based in Warrington has been selected to represent Britain at an international convention next year.
Cheshire Chord Company was founded in 1993 and aims to bring a unique touch to the world of barbershop harmony, building themselves a reputation for intricate harmonies and lively performances.
The group won the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers competition in October, which will now allow them to represent Britain at the International Barbershop Harmony Society in Denver, Colorado.
The convention, which is held every year, will take place in July 2025 and will celebrate barbershop harmony, bringing the best choruses and quartets from around the world together.
Cheshire Chord Company, which has around 65 members, is the second female chorus from Britain to have ever been invited and hope to build on the legacy of the group that came before them.
“It’s an incredible honour for us to represent Britain at the Barbershop Harmony Society Convention,” said Julie Philips, public relations officer for the group.
“We’ve worked incredibly hard to get here, and being part of such a prestigious event is both exciting and humbling.
“We’re eager to share our passion for barbershop harmony with an international audience and to celebrate the rich tradition of this art form.”
Ahead of the convention, the group are putting together a repertoire and are aiming to deliver a performance that reflects the tradition of barbershop harmony while adding their own flare.
“The support we’ve received from the barbershop community and beyond has been nothing short of heart-warming,” said Julie.
“Friends, family, and fans have been organising fundraisers, sending encouraging messages, and cheering us on every step of the way.
“As we prepare to take the stage, we do so with immense prise and excitement, carrying with us the hopes and encouragement of everyone who has supported us along the way.”
