RESIDENTS have complained of ‘menacing seagulls’ in one area of Warrington.

In particular, their ‘nuisance calling’ and the ‘splatter’ that they leave on cars.

Those living in the Bewsey area say the problem is particularly bad around Warrington Hospital, and specifically in the catering part of the grounds.

One person said that the seagulls ‘start their nuisance calling’ from around 4am each day and that this carries on until the late evening.

They also raised the issue of ‘the mess’ that the seagulls make on cars in the area with their ‘splatter’.

“These birds belong at the ocean, not in a rural development due to the food that's obviously readily available,” a resident told the Warrington Guardian.

Warrington Hospital has responded to this issue and has said that it has received no other reports of seagulls being a nuisance in the area.

A spokesperson for the trust said: “We understand that seagulls can be considered a nuisance, and as a Trust we have robust pest prevention and control measures in place to manage our hospital sites in a safe and controlled way.

“We have received no additional reports of seagulls being a nuisance in the area and are not aware of any nests on the site. We take a proactive approach to conducting site inspections and are working closely with a specialist team to review the area and identify if any nesting is present on site.

“As seagulls are a protected species, should any nest or nestling be found on one of our hospital sites, any action to relocate the birds will be undertaken with a specialist team outside of nesting season in accordance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981.”
