A DEDICATED group has raised more than £2,500 for St Rocco’s Hospice.

Last month, the Warrington Indian Ladies took on a 10km hike, starting at the Town Hall and finishing at the Bewsey hospice.

There were 26 members from the group involved in the hike, ranging from the ages of 30 to 75.

One of the women who took part, Nilima, has been described as an ‘inspiration’.

She is a retired doctor and has autoimmune disease which causes vision problems, so she was accompanied by her husband.

The ladies were also joined by their partners, family and friends on the hike.

And to do something ‘different’, the members walked in their sarees.

Warrington Indian Ladies member Suma Jagadeesh said: “We chose to walk in our sarees because it is something personal to the group and we wanted to showcase our traditional Indian attire.

“We also thought it was an opportunity to do something different.

“It was a challenge because they can be difficult to walk in.

“They are six metres in length and can be made from different fabrics like cotton and silk which can also make them quite heavy.

“We are so happy to have completed the hike and we hope by wearing our sarees, we have also raised awareness of the Indian community in Warrington.”

The Warrington Indian Ladies raised an impressive £2,527 through their walk.

It isn’t the first time that they have supported St Rocco’s Hospice.

Various members have taken part in other fundraisers such as the hospice’s Sunset Walk and Starlight Walk.

And last Christmas and Diwali, they visited the hospice to deliver food and donations for patients.
