TWO fire engines are currently outside a restaurant after an oven fire broke out at the venue.

Firefighters were called to put out an oven fire at The Pink Pearl at Earle Street, in Earlestown.

A fire service spokeswoman said the fire has been extinguished but crews remained at the scene ventilating the site.

The Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "MFRS is in attendance at an incident at Pink Pearl Restaurant on Earle Street, Newton-le-Willows.

"Crews were alerted at 2.44pm and on scene at 2.52pm. Two fire engines attended.

"On arrival crews found an oven involved in fire. Gas, electric and water supplies were cut off and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a high pressure hose reel jet."

She added: "Crews remain on scene to ventilate the building and cut away the ceiling to check for fire spread.

"Regular temperature checks are being carried out and the incident is being scaled down."
