A STUDENT at a sixth form college in Wilderspool has been named a ‘rising star’ in the computer games industry.

Faith Quick, 18, discovered a passion for character design while she was a student at Preistley College on Loushers Lane.

Now, she has been named a ‘rising star’ in the computer games industry after she fulfilled a brief set by Grads in Games, which is an initiative that aims to help graduates become professionals in the industry.

Faith, who is awaiting her A-Level results, was chosen to receive the accolade out of 400 other creative minds from across the UK.

“I was surprised at how well I did, especially when I looked down the list and most if the other people were already at university,” she said.

“I always thought I might go into animation, but it was on the course at Priestley that I realised how much I loved character design.”

For her submission, Faith chose the word ‘metamorphosis’ as her inspiration and created a human shapeshifter called Lillian, whose form can change into a dragon.

She also looked to the hit animation How to Train Your Dragon for inspiration and developed a detailed backstory for Lillian’s life and experiences.

“For the human design, I wanted to create a very childlike appearance to reflect her cute and bubbly personality,” said Faith.

“Then for the dragon I wanted to carry over the markings and characteristics of the human form. Overall, I was happy with what I came up with.”

The student, who studied fine art and computer game design at the sixth form college, is set to attend Abertray University in Dundee and continue her passion.

“It’s well known for game design, and I am really looking forward to the industry placement I will do as part of my course,” she said.
