WARRINGTON has been named as one of the best places for proximity to parks and gardens, according to a new study.

The average distance to a park, public garden or playing field in the town is 263.14 metres.

The Green Giants research, conducted by home improvement specialists, Eurocell, examined several important factors that homebuyers consider when searching for a new home, including average distance to public outdoor space like parks, playing fields and gardens.

This comes after reports that access to green space has been linked to a reduced rate of anxiety, stress and loneliness.

Eurocell has complied a list of the top 10 places with the closest proximity to parks, public gardens and playing fields.

In top place was Stoke-on-Trent with a distance in metres of 217.

While Warrington came second with 263 metres.

Also in the list is nearby St Helens with 279 metres.

Beth Boulton, marketing director at Eurocell, said: “Outdoor space is hugely important for our physical and mental health - especially in summer it can produce the added bonus of a socialising space to enjoy with family and friends.

“Outdoor space has become a much bigger priority for homebuyers since working from home was popularised by the COVID-19 pandemic. Whilst not every home has a garden, public parks, gardens and playing fields can offer a space to enjoy the fresh air, socialise and exercise, many being a space for run clubs or children's sports clubs.”
