A CARELESS driver who broke a motorcyclist’s leg after colliding into him in Latchford has been disqualified from driving and ordered to pay more than £1,000.

Sandra Leah, of Greenway in Appleton, appeared in Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after she pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving.

On March 6 at around 3.55pm, the 57-year-old was pulling out of a junction onto Station Road in Latchford when the sun was in her view.

As she pulled out of the junction in her white Mini Cooper, she collided with a motorcyclist who has been travelling down the single carriageway on his way home.

The victim sustained injuries as a result of the collision, including a broken leg in which is tibia and fibula were both broken.

The prosecution for the case, Miss Pridding, told the court that the victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for two and a half weeks.

Defending Leah, Mr Green told the court that the accident was a ‘very unfortunate incident’.

“She didn’t see the motorbike, the sun was obstructing her view,” he said.

“We have all been in that situation, and unfortunately for Miss Leah it's ended up in an accident."

Leah cried in the dock as Mr Green told the court that the incident has ‘taken a massive toll on her’ and that the process of coming to court has been ‘part of her punishment’.

A victim statement was also read to the court, in which the victim said he had had ‘sleepless nights’ due to the discomfort from the injury and that he has been unable to work since May.

Leah was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a total of £1,017 to the court, including a £666 fine.
