THE opening weekend of Warrington's Arts Festival brought big crowds to the town centre.

The event has been revamped this year and runs until Sunday – so plenty to enjoy if you didn't get out and about last weekend.

Among the highlights so far was Aphrodite's House Party, which saw Warrington Museum transformed with DJs and lights while families enjoyed a range of entertainment in Queen's Gardens on Saturday and Sunday.

A spokesman for the festival said: “Thank you to all the performers, artists and creatives who made the opening weekend and relaunch of Warrington Arts Festival (WAF) 2024 such a success.

“We pushed boundaries with Aphrodite’s House Party – a ‘night at the museum’ with DJs, projections and interactive installations – celebrated emerging talent at the Youth Music Stage at Old Market Place and our WAF Young Producers did us proud at Squiggle where Golden Square visitors were encouraged to lose themselves in a sea of doodles.

“It was amazing seeing all sections of the community enjoying themselves and that was best represented at our two-day Family Garden Party which transformed Queens Gardens into a vibrant open-air performance space.

“We’re proud of what our expanded team has achieved this year and it’s all thanks to a game-changing £840,000 grant from Arts Council England, Warrington Borough Council and Warrington BID.

“This funding has allowed us to completely revamp the event from top to bottom and involved consulting with the community over five months to create a festival that was made with, by and for the people of Warrington. There is so much more to come and we really hope you can join us.”
