Man charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving in crash

It comes almost a year to the day of the incident on Daresbury Expressway on July 24, 2023.

A large emergency service presence was in attendance on the main road between Runcorn and Warrington, at the Sandymoor roundabout.

Police were called to reports of a collision involving two HGVs at the junction with Pitts Heath Lane and Blackheath Lane at around 3.20pm.

At the time, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said that three casualties managed to get out of their vehicles and were treated by paramedics.

It was reported that one injured person suffered eight fractured ribs, a fractured sternum, fractured vertebrae, hand fractures and extensive bruising and cuts.

Another is said to have sustained bumps, bruises and cuts. It is believed that one of those injured is of Birchwood.

The road was closed overnight and during a period of the following day, from Manor Park to Chester Road, after a large quantity of oil leaked onto the road.

Firefighters used absorbent mats to soak up oil and diesel leaking from the vehicles.

Now, Kenneth Tomlinson has been charged in connection with the incident.

The 64-year-old, of Knowles Street in Radcliffe, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The particulars of the charge allege that on July 24, 2023, he caused serious injury to a man by driving a DAF HGV dangerously on Daresbury Expressway.

Tomlinson is due to make a first appearance in relation to the charge before Warrington Magistrates’ Court today, Tuesday.
