POLICE officers rushed to the railway line between Warrington Bank Quay and Earlestown yesterday evening, Sunday.

This came following reports of an emergency incident involving a potential casualty on the tracks.

Thankfully, British Transport Police has confirmed that the incident was a ‘near miss’ rather than a fatality.

No further details have been released by the force, however the incident saw a number of trains cancelled or delayed.

A spokesman for BTP said: “We were called to the line near Earlestown railway station shortly after 5.30pm yesterday, Sunday, July 21.

“We attended following reports of a possible casualty on the tracks.

“Officers conducted a full area search and thankfully confirmed this to be a near miss.”

It is believed that a person was found nearby and was handed by firefighters into the care of North West Ambulance Service paramedics to be checked over.
