A FIRE broke out at a gym.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Apollo Park in Warrington late last night following reports of an automatic fire alarm going off.

Upon arriving at the gym, understood to be Athelis, crews found a fire in the laundry room.

Four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform from the Warrington, Lymm, Birchwood, Penketh and Stockton Heath stations were required to tackle the blaze.

A spokesperson said: “Shortly before 1.15am North West Fire Control received reports of an automatic fire alarm activating at a large commercial gym.

“On arrival, crews wearing breathing apparatus found a developing fire in a laundry room and used a hose reel water jet to extinguish it.

“Further checks were made to ensure the fire had not spread and the building was ventilated.”

Athelis has been contacted for further information.
