Ten delicious dessert destinations in Warrington made the shortlist for the latest Best of 2024 award and White Lace Bakery has taken this year’s coveted crown.
White Lace Bakery was first established as a wedding cake business in 2016 from their converted garage before it moved to Warrington market, Cockhedge Centre and then Market Place in Golden Square.
Lindsay and Graham Albon own the business with daughter Lauren Paget working as the shop manager and White Lace Bakery is very much a family business.
The shop’s counter is stocked daily with delicious homemade brownies and blondies as well as cookies, cakes and tray bakes.
There’s a made-to-order tearoom menu with sandwiches, paninis and jacket potatoes as well as wraps and breakfast sandwiches.
Lindsay, who is 42, said: “We are a mum and dad with six children running a sweet bakery and tearoom, which is managed by our eldest daughter Lauren.
“Graham bakes all the brownies and blondies and I bake and decorate all the cakes.
“It is a true family affair and we are all really passionate about what we do.
“You will often see our little ones in the shop and our older children helping out serving behind the counter.
“We adore our customers; we have grown a lovely following over the eight years we have been in business.
“We wouldn’t be who we are without them.”
White Lace Bakery offers afternoon tea, cream tea and morning brunch and has a fully stocked ice cream counter serving Grandpa Green’s award-winning ice cream as well as milkshakes.
Lindsay, who previously worked in customer service, said: “Our morning brunch style afternoon tea is unique and hugely popular.
“It has mini American pancakes, pastries and fruit salad as well as poached eggs and bacon and other mini dishes.
“It’s been a roaring success since we launched it earlier this year.
“Our birthday cakes and wedding cakes and ordered months in advance and we offer wholesale orders to other local businesses.”
White Lace Bakery grew from making a few birthday cakes to specialising in wedding cakes and Lindsay making more than 100 over the course of one year.
Opening their own bakery was the next step and enabled them to grow the range of bakes they offer.
Lindsay said: “We kind of just fell into the baking business after I was being made redundant.
“I started baking and grew the wedding cake business very quickly, being featured in OK magazine and winning awards.
“Graham then joined me full time in 2018 and the business then rebranded when our bakery was born.
“There are so many amazing local bakers and businesses in Warrington.
“Like them, we are dedicated and a little mad about what we do.
“We are always coming up with new ideas and new trends, offering freshly baked goodies that often sell out as quick as we have made them.
“We always strive to offer friendly and engaging customer service - our little pink shop is warm and inviting and is a place to come and have a natter, enjoy our delicious food and bakes and really relax.
“We rotate our bakes often so no two weeks are the same and we are ways coming up with new ideas and giving our customers something new to try.
“Our old school sponge cake is a very popular choice and we sell hundreds of slices of it each week.
“We also offer mix and match treat boxes of any items on our counter for a set cost, so you can pick your own goodies while getting a good deal.
“This is something our customers love as it’s perfect for a family to share or to treat someone’s birthday.”
What do White Lace Bakery’s customers think of the business? Why did they want them to win our latest Best of 2024 award?
One nomination said: “Simply the best brownies and cakes and it’s run by such lovely people!”
White Lace Bakery made the top ten for the third year in a row but their excitement for the competition hasn’t wavered.
Lindsay said: “We honestly were blown away to be shortlisted again this year and very excited.
“The dessert competition is always fierce with so many amazing bakers in our town.
“We do have a large following of supporters, so we kept our fingers tightly crossed that they would take their time to vote for us.
“When we heard that we’d won, we were shocked and delighted to have won for a third time.
“We are thrilled to have so much support from the community, our customers and the Warrington Guardian readers.
“Thank you to everyone who took time to nominate us and vote for us – your support means everything to us.
“We will be running a giveaway competition to celebrate the award win - we haven’t decided what to giveaway just yet so keep an eye out for updates!”
