WARRINGTON’S best and worst rated surgeries for 2024 have been revealed – by patients themselves.

It comes as the results of this year’s NHS GP Patient Survey have now been published, with questionnaires sent out to 9,469 patients.

A total of 2,979 were returned complete, demonstrating a response rate of 35 per cent.

The GP Patient Survey measures patients’ experiences across a range of topics, including making an appointment, access to online services and out-of-hours services.

Cockhedge Medical Centre was named the best in Warrington according to patients, with an overall approval rating of 92 per cent.

This was a huge increase on the 63 per cent score it received last year, with the practice being the only one in Warrington with a rating of 90 per cent or more.

It was followed by Dallam Lane Medical Centre on 86 per cent, Guardian Street Medical Centre also on 86 per cent and Springfields Medical Centre on 85 per cent.

Eight surgeries had a rating of 80 per cent or greater – one fewer than the year before.

At the other end of the table, Chapelford Primary Care Centre was again rated as the worst surgery in the town in terms of patient satisfaction – for the third year running.

It was graded 52 per cent in terms of overall approval rate – however this is a rise compared to a rating of 47 per cent last year, and 35 the year prior.

Four Seasons sits one place above Chapelford with a rating of 55 per cent, with Folly Lane Medical Centre next on 65 per cent.

Cockhedge Medical Centre saw the highest improvement rate, up 29 percentage points from the previous year, followed by Penketh Medical Centre (24 per cent) and Holes Lane Medical Centre (17 per cent).

In contrast, Greenbank Surgery was 14 percentage points worse off than 2023, followed by Four Seasons Medical Centre (11 per cent) and Brookfield Surgery (nine per cent).

The national approval rating across England for 2023 is 74 per cent – up from 71 per cent last year.

In total, 11 Warrington surgeries fell below this mark – the same number as in 2023 – while 12 were above average.

Overall, 74 per cent of Warrington residents were happy with the experience they received from their GP surgery, compared to 72 per cent last year.
