A PLANNING application for a ‘redundant’ doctor’s surgery on Bewsey Street has been submitted to transform the disused building into a HMO with eight bedrooms.
The application, which was submitted to Warrington Borough Council on July 5 outlines plans to transform the Grade II listed building into a HMO property with eight beds.
The building, 74 Bewsey Street, was previously used as the Eric Moore Medical Centre, but has been empty since 2015 when the doctor’s surgery moved to Tanners Lane.
The application, which was submitted to Warrington Borough Council on July 5, outlines plans to transform the Grade II listed building into a HMO property with eight beds.
In 2019, a similar application was submitted and approved to turn the building into flats after the owners were ‘not able to find suitable tenants in its current form’.
However, the floorplans submitted with the new application show that this work never took place.
If approved, the building would consist of eight bedrooms across three floors, each with its own en-suite.
A change of use must be granted before the former doctor’s surgery can be developed into a residential property, even though it is not currently open.
Due to the fact that the building is listed, consent must also be granted before changes can be made to the building.
Warrington Borough Council will now deliberate the application, which will be either approved or rejected by July 31.
