A SET of traffic lights were destroyed after being crashed into by a car last night, Friday.
Cheshire Police has confirmed that officers from its special constabulary team attended an incident on Wilderspool Causeway.
This occurred at the junction with Loushers Lane and Gainsborough Road.
A car had ‘wiped out’ the traffic lights, with the junction closed while emergency services were in attendance.
The traffic lights came to rest on the windscreen of the car, with extensive damage caused to the front of the vehicle.
Cheshire Police said that a drugs test was carried out which indicated the presence of cannabis, with the male driver subsequently arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
The force’s special constabulary team said: “Last night, Friday, SC Hendry, CC Boland, SC Hart and A-block response attended a collision in Warrington.
“A car had crashed due to travelling too quickly, wiping out the traffic lights.
“He tested positive for cannabis so was arrested by SC Hendry on suspicion of drug driving.”
