A WOMAN has been named by the courts after being charged following a crash which left a cyclist in a ‘critical’ condition.

At around 4.15pm on Friday, April 14, 2023, Cheshire Police was called to reports of a road traffic collision near to Pink Eye roundabout.

Officers swiftly attended the scene and found that a cyclist and a white Fiat Qubo were involved in a collision near the pedestrian crossing on Priestley Street.

The cyclist, a 46-year-old man, sustained ‘serious and life-threatening injuries’ and was rushed to the Walton Centre at Aintree Hospital for treatment.

He was said to be fighting for his life due to being in a ‘critical’ condition.

A large police and paramedic presence was visible at the scene, and road closures were in place for a number of hours with people advised to avoid the area.

A 50-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and released under investigation.

The force issued a public appeal for information over the incident in the aftermath, with anyone with any information, dashcam video or CCTV footage urged to come forward.

More than a year on, court documents have confirmed that a 51-year-old woman has now been charged in connection with the incident.

Jenny Clayton, of Norley Close in Whitecross, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The particulars of the charge allege that, on April 14, 2023, in Warrington, the defendant caused serious injury to a man by driving a Fiat Qubo dangerously on Priestley Street.

Clayton is due to make a first appearance in relation to the charge before Warrington Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Monday.
