A COW stuck in a river has been rescued by Cheshire firefighters.
The animal was in danger of drowning in a remote spot in the River Weaver.
Firefighters were able to track down the distressed animal, thanks to the what3words app and Northwest Fire Control staff.
The rope rescue unit from Lymm and animal units from Knutsford and Bollington teamed up to mount the rescue.
The painstaking operation was a success.
A spokesman from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Finding the animal with the words cone.scribble.gracing, swift water and animal rescue technicians then worked together to successfully get the cow out of the water, after part of the riverbank was dug out to allow it to get out safely.
“Big thank you to the farmer who assisted.”
Two fire engines from Nantwich and Lymm also helped with the incident which happened on Coole Lane in Austerson shortly after 10am on Thursday.
