A UKRANIAN hub based in Warrington is asking the community to come together and raise some money, after the devastating news that a children’s hospital in Kyiv was hit by missiles this week.

The Ukrainian Family Hub Warrington, based in Culcheth, is making an appeal for as many businesses as possible to come together and fundraise this Friday.

Donations will go directly to helping those affected by the bombing of Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv, which saw at least nine people killed and left 33 others injured.

It was reported on Monday that Russia had sent a barrage of missiles raining down across Ukraine.

The attack was one of the biggest seen in the capital alone in months and missiles struck the Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital.

Young patients were evacuated from the hospital with their parents as the building was severely damaged by the attack.

A rescue operation has been in place this week to find any survivors that may be trapped under the rubble of the building.

Leanne Borshik, events coordinator at the Ukrainian Family Hub Warrington has already had a great response from the community following the fundraising appeal.

“We would like to ask local businesses to hold an event on their own, donate the funds or a percentage of the money to our cause,” she explained.

“We have already contacted a number of local businesses. The General Elliott in Croft is holding a coffee morning on Friday and Partridge Lakes Fishery in Culcheth has offered 50 per cent of the profit it will make from the bar on a football event.

“We are very lucky and both these businesses have always supported the Hub, we are asking other people to do the same.”

The Ukrainian Family Hub has also organised a bake sale at Newchurch Parish Hall tomorrow, Friday, at 10am and is asking that people come down and buy some delicious treats for the urgent cause.

“Rebuilding a hospital or trying to find somewhere that can house the children and families is going to be very hard and the more resources the hospital has the better,” Leanne said.

“We can make a difference. Warrington has been a huge support for all our Ukrainian refugees, we can continue this by donating money to this cause.”

Famous artist and member of the hub, Yaroslav Yasenev, has donated many of his sketches to go up for sale in the hub in Culcheth on Sunday (July 14).

Yaroslav and his family are originally from Kyiv and the artist still has many friends and family in the Ukraine capital that have not been able to leave.

All proceeds of fundraisers will be going directly to the Hospital.

Leanne added: “We are appealing to the good nature of the community and if you could sponsor a family/ couple/ mother and child please get in contact with us.

“We can and will help with all aspects from visa application to matching families, organising schools, benefits and anything else you can think of, we will be there.

“Sponsors still receive a payment from the government to host and you can make a difference to someone's life.

“We are also asking for volunteers to join our amazing team, if you can spare a few hours on a Sunday please get in touch.”
