MORE than 20 species of animals were discovered in the Mersey in Warrington.
And this was just during one event hosted by The Mersey Gateway Environmental Trust at Fiddlers Ferry Sailing Club.
The trust held an open day at the Penketh club where they took samples from the river.
Using high powered microscopes, attendees were able to see local life forms that are invisible to the eye.
During the event, more than 20 species were sighted. This included four species of fish and a common seal.
Visitors were amazed to find this amount of wildlife on their doorstep, and the event was so successful that another open day has been planned at the club.
It will take at Fiddlers Ferry Sailing Club on August 24 from 11am until 2pm.
There will be netting demonstrations, digital microscopes to get a better view of samples and ecologists will be there to talk about the different animals that live in the river.
Everyone is welcome.
