THE actions of a caring cleaner have been praised after a couple were reunited with a piece of sentimental jewellery.

Husband and wife Steve and Sue Wainwright, of Orford, visited Warrington Market recently.

But they were devastated to learn that Steve had lost his special gold bracelet, gifted to him by Sue on their wedding day 30 years ago, after it slipped off his wrist.

They retraced their steps to all the shops, cafés, bus stops and pavements they had visited, but to no avail.

After a long day searching for the highly sentimental bracelet, they visited The Cookhouse for a drink and rest, and to try the very last place they thought it might be.

Thankfully, a cleaner was able to reunite them with the bracelet after it was handed in by cleaner Diane to management for safe keeping.

Sue explained: “My husband Steve and I went to Warrington Market and left around teatime.

“However, my husband had not realised that his gold bracelet had come off his wrist, probably when he removed his jacket.

“Arriving home, he was upset at losing his bracelet as it was a wedding present from me to him 30 years ago in April 1994.

“Steve was so apologetic to me for losing this very special and precious gold bracelet.

“The next day, he called into the market and asked one of the cleaners if by any chance the bracelet had been handed in.

“Thankfully, another cleaner, a lovely lady named Diane, had found it and left it with market management for safe keeping.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Diane and all of the staff at Warrington Market – we will always be eternally grateful.”

A Warrington Market spokesman said: “We received a thank you letter from Steve and Sue to our beloved Cookhouse attendant, Di.

“With the last bit of hope, Sue asked Di whether she had seen a gold bracelet, not expecting anything to come of it of course.

“Our superhero Di said ‘give me one minute’ and returned with the very piece of jewellery they had been searching for.

“Di picked it up and kept it safe until its rightful owner returned. Needless to say, they were both ecstatic.

“They then took the bracelet to PJ's Jewellers to amend the size. A big thank you to Di and the team for keeping it safe.”
