Starting as a midday and teaching assistant, Janet Shaw has had quite the journey at Barrow Hall Primary School.

Colleagues quickly realised that she had so much more to bring to the Barrow Hall community and she took on a SENDCO role, providing support and compassion for students and their families.

Janet has a passion for helping children to succeed, whether that be educationally or socially, and she ensures all children are safe and supported - she is a true role model.

Janet will be retiring this summer, after nearly three decades at Barrow Hall Primary School, and will be greatly missed by staff, students and parents alike.

She is the very worthy recipient of the Warrington Guardian Outstanding Achievement Award 2024.

A very special award for a very special member of staff.

Headteacher John Littler said: “Over recent years, Janet’s role has changed significantly into the school's first 'port of call' for parents and families of children for any questions and/or support that is needed and she does her job skilfully, efficiently and sensitively.

“Her efforts make a real difference to the children she works with, as a result, she is very highly valued by the families and staff of our school.
