AN incredible initiative has won staff at Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School the 2024 Team of the Year award.

Enabling students to reach their full potential within school is at the heart of their programme, with staff providing alternative timetables and 1:1 opportunities for students that require extra support for mental health and additional needs.

The progress hub also offers online provision and exam anxiety workshops as well as social skills groups to cater for all students.

One nomination for the hub said: “I would like to thank the progress hub team for always pushing me to be the best version of myself.

“I will always be grateful for the time and effort they put into teaching me along with the passion they have for getting to know my interests.

“They go above and beyond to ensure that I feel safe in school and that I am happy and supported.”

Another said: “They are teaching and supporting vulnerable children.

“Through having a child who requires their support, I have seen that all the staff have their own unique skill sets and some extraordinary traits that enable them to be fantastic at their jobs.

“They have taken the time to get to know my son and understand his methods of communicating.

“They all have an amazing sense of humour and, being a parent of a child who is SEN, this is important.

“Having the ability to laugh at yourself and not take yourself too seriously makes it easier to deal with the more challenging days along with building positive relationships.

“The staff from the progress hub go above and beyond and deserve this recognition.”

Another student added: “Thank you for guiding me when I lost my way and ensuring I smiled before the end of each day.”

Beverley Scott-Herron, head teacher of Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School, said: “High-quality outcomes encompass not only academic achievement but also social and emotional development, independence and overall well-being.

“However, the inclusiveness of the school environment and the success of our internal provisions like our Progress Hub extends beyond the academic achievements and delivers a breadth of extracurricular activities, opportunities for social interaction, and attempts to increase the feeling of belonging to our Boteler family.

“Students here feel loved and valued and know they are a part of a wider community who appreciates and understands them for being individuals, knowing that success looks different for each one of them.”
