STARTING a new career in teaching can be overwhelming but Amy Dawson has taken it all in her stride as she impacts the lives of Year One students at Stockton Heath Primary School in such a positive way. 

There were cheers and tears from staff and students at the West Avenue school as Amy was presented with the award in recognition of all her efforts and success.

Parents and students showered the new teacher with compliments in their nominations, wanting to honour her hard work and accomplishments over the past 12 months. 

Described as “wonderful”, “an absolute treasure” and “incredibly enthusiastic”, Amy Dawson is our New Teacher of the Year 2024. 

One nomination said: “Amy has been an absolute star and made a wonderful impact on my daughter and her attitude towards school. 

“Amy has really helped my daughter with her confidence and her blending of words and for her very first ever class, Amy has well and truly knocked it out of the park!” 

Amy, who is a former student at Edge Hill University, prides herself in getting to know her pupils, exploring what learning methods work best for them, to ensure the best support is provided for every child.

Another nomination said: “Amy is very approachable, which is great for parents.

“She always listens to concerns from both parents and children and deals with them straight away. 

“She’s worked so hard in her first year as a teacher and really deserves recognition.” 

One parent shared how supportive Amy has been for the whole family during a difficult time and said she has truly gone the extra mile.

They feel confident knowing that their daughter is well looked after in school.

A third nomination said: “Amy has been amazing with my son when he has any issues or is struggling with his schoolwork.  

“She is always available to help when needed and offers him extra support.”

Dan Harding, head teacher at Stockton Heath Primary School, said: “Amy has made an excellent start to her career and to life here at Stockton Heath Primary School as a Year One class teacher and is very enthusiastic and clearly committed to teaching and education in general. 

“The children respond very positively to Amy and she has formed a lovely, caring, sharing and nurturing bond with every one of them.

“Parents have been particularly complimentary about how supportive and approachable Amy has been this year and they clearly value her as their child’s teacher. 

“She is a worthy winner of this award in her first year proper of teaching and I’m very proud of her.”
