SUPPORTIVE and approachable, with a passion for his subject, Tom Williams never fails to offer encouragement to his pupils in his media and film studies classroom.

Since starting at Priestley College in 2015, Tom has continued to cater to all his students’ needs.

After nine years at Priestley College, Tom has won our Further Education Teacher of the Year Award 2024.

His colleagues came together to surprise him and to honour his dedication to his job.

One student shared their reasons for nominating Tom, explaining how he has given them extra support when needed.

They said: “Tom has always had time for me and nothing was ever too much to ask.

“He would always appreciate my hard work and would help me when I was struggling or feeling overwhelmed, as he knew how to best to handle the situation and to make me feel at ease.”

The student explained how Tom has helped them throughout their course, especially when they dealt with the loss of a family member.

Tom also helped the student to pursue their passion, encouraging them to take on challenges outside the classroom including a residential college trip to New York.

The nomination went on: “I believe Tom Williams should be awarded the Further Education Teacher of the Year Award as he has always been approachable and has been a constant strength and support to me throughout my studies at Priestley College.”
