A WHOLE school assembly, balloons, banners and cakes - Latchford St James CE Primary School went all out to celebrate their winner.

He is hardworking, dedicated and an inspiration to staff, students and parents and is the epitome of what a role model should be.

His involvement in drama performances, sports and fundraising is admirable and he is valued by everyone at school.  

He made a promise when he first became headteacher at Latchford St James CE Primary School, saying he would give the role everything.

Everyone agrees that he has fulfilled this promise every single day over the past three years. 

Parents say that “everything about the school has improved” since Mr Hayes took over the head teacher role, with not only more developed teaching but also an expansion of extracurricular activities to encourage children to succeed. 

Mr Hayes is a great advocate for fundraising and recently become a joint leader of the Three Peaks Challenge, where he has raised more than £6,000 for his school.

One nomination said: “Mr Hayes plans to continue breaking barriers to learning over the next few years, including the coast to coast challenge and mental health initiatives.”

Another nomination said: “In addition to his fundraising activities, Mr Hayes demonstrates a modern approach to school leadership and student engagement. 

“He has successfully implemented a restorative behaviour approach in the school, creating a safe environment where children's emotions are understood, leading to improved behaviour across the school.  

“He is attentive to students who may be hesitant to engage, going above and beyond to earn their trust.”

A spokesperson for the school said: “Mr Hayes is one of life’s all-round great guys.

“He’s friendly and fun to be around, he’s supportive and encouraging, he’ll do anything for anyone and always with a smile, a quick wit and ready for a laugh. 

“His energy and passion for life itself, teaching and the children in his care is clear to see.

“He doesn’t just want children to progress academically, but also socially and emotionally, and will do all he can to help make that happen.”

Staff and parents agree that there is no one better to win this award with colleagues adding they are proud to be working alongside him.
