FORMER Warrington South MP Andy Carter has wished his successor well in her new role.

The Conservative candidate lost his seat as member of Parliament in last week’s general election, with Labour candidate and former councillor Sarah Hall elected.

Having reflected on the result, Mr Carter says he has been ‘taken aback’ by the kind messages he has received following his loss.

He has also expressed congratulations to Ms Hall and has given her ‘every good wishes’ for her time in the job.

Mr Carter said: “Time to round things off and to say thank you. It goes without saying that the outcome was not the result I wanted to see.

“It has been a privilege to serve as the member of Parliament for Warrington South for the last four-and-a-half years.

“I send my warmest congratulations to Sarah Hall on a well-fought campaign, and I send to her and her family every good wishes as she takes on this most fantastic role.

“Thank you to my brilliant Parliamentary team – Stephen, Stewart, Lyndsey, James, Julie and Alec – who have supported me in the constituency and at Westminster.

“You quickly realise how important your small team is to make sure you are across the issues and in the right place. They are the unsung heroes.

“I also want to say a heartfelt thanks to the campaign team volunteers in Warrington, who have walked the streets and knocked on thousands of doors in all weathers with me.

“They do it because they share the same values, priorities and commitments to making Warrington South and our country a better place.

“Finally, thank you to all who voted for me and to the many thousands who have engaged with me during my time as your MP.

“I have tried to represent you to the best of my abilities and to make sure you have a voice.

“I have been slightly taken aback by the very kind messages I have received, wishing me all the best.

“Quite a few people have asked what is next. Time with my wonderful family, more walks with the dogs, time to do all the jobs at home I have been putting off, a holiday and then new adventures.”
