FANCYING a bite to eat in Warrington town centre, we went for a walk around.

We had no plans of where to go and were open to any options.

Considering what type of food to go for, we walked past The Odyssey on Bold Street and saw a sign advertising Ruddies Pizza.

We decided to give it a try, and we can safely say we were not disappointed – in fact, very far from it.

Ruddies Pizza had been serving from the Hive WA1 since January 2023, but it is now based in The Odyssey pub for eat-in or takeaway.

The small, independent business serves high-quality, Neapolitan pizzas and homemade sides.

We were greeted warmly and with a smile to the rear of the pub by owner George Rudd, who started his business in his garage.

After studying the menu, we went for an R Kid pizza and a Ruddies Little Devil pizza, priced at £11 each.

We would strongly recommend the R Kid pizza at Ruddies

We would strongly recommend the R Kid pizza at Ruddies

Both feature a fresh, 12-inch, hand-stretched artisan baked pizza dough, topped with a base of San Marzano tomato and fresh Mozzarella cheese, as well as Grana Padano cheese, basil and extra virgin olive oil on top.

The former had additional toppings of fresh crumbly goat cheese, Spanish chorizo, red onion and chilli honey.

The Little Devil meanwhile was topped with pepperoni, hot nduja sausage.

R Kid featured a sweet taste that sets the pizza apart from most we have tried thanks to the chilli honey, with a subtle kick of spice too.

The red onion also adds a sweetness, balanced by the delicious goats cheese.

Little Devil had much more of a kick thanks to the nduja, although not overpowering, while the dough for both was tasty and not tough, as can be the case with some pizzas.

We could not recommend this hidden gem enough – both in terms of the taste and quality of the pizzas and friendly and helpful service.

We would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone and will definitely be returning.
