A HEARTBREAKING fundraising appeal has been launched to treat a suffering cat found with a maggot infested wound.
The poor feline was found curled up beside the River Mersey near Warrington town centre yesterday, Thursday.
He is unchipped and had a large wound on his side that had become infected, with not-for-profit charity Safe Cats Rescue Warrington taking him to the vets for treatment.
This however will cost hundreds of pounds, if not more, and the rescue centre has launched at Just Giving page to help fund it.
This has raised almost £700 already, and to donate, visit justgiving.com/crowdfunding/safecats-rescue
The Safe Cats Rescue Warrington team said: “We were contacted about a very injured cat that people had noticed curled up by the river.
“The cat had a very large wound on his side which had been infected and had maggots in, so we rushed out to the area to search for him.
“Once he was caught, we knew we needed to take him straight to the vets for an emergency appointment as the wound was very large, red and full of gunk and maggots.
“We were able to scan for a microchip, but unfortunately, he was not chipped.
“He is now at the vets where they are sedating him to clean the affected area and have a closer look to see if the infection has gone internally.
“While he is at the vets he is being microchipped, flea treated, wormed and having an antibiotic injection.
“Vets cleaned the wound the best they could and a biopsy is to be taken due to a hard mass below the wound.
“Also, his kidneys do not feel right, but it is thought best to let the antibiotics run their course, get the biopsy results and reassess.”
