A CALL has been made for action to be taken to improve a ‘dangerous’ junction that has become a ‘crash hotspot’.

It follows a recent accident at the traffic lights linking Marsh House Lane, Padgate Lane and Gorsey Lane, in the Orford and Padgate area.

Dominic Atkinson, who lives close to the junction, says he has seen a number of accidents at the lights by motorists jumping them.

He says he fears for people crossing the road in case a far more serious incident occurs.

“I would love to spread some awareness as the lights at the junction are dangerous, and there have been multiple crashes and near misses,” he said.

“I myself require a walking aid, and these lights can be very dangerous for most people.

“I have seen at least three crashes in the last year alone, and the lights on the corner only have three roads covered instead of the four for the cross section.

“The main issue I have seen is that the lights change too fast, and as one just gets to red, the other light begin to go green.

“At rush hour, when everyone is trying to get home, people are pushing the red light time, and others are setting off too fast.

“Personally, I would add a little extra time for the lights or add an additional light system crossing from the shop to Voodoo Tattoo.

“Last year, a crash caused major damage to the tattoo parlour. The junction is a major risk to both pedestrians and drivers.”

The Warrington Guardian approached Warrington Borough Council for a statement regarding the junction.

A spokesman said: “Safety checks have been carried out on the signals at the junctions of Marsh House Lane, Padgate Lane and Gorsey Lane.

“They are all in accordance with standards ,and there are no issues with timings or any faults reported.

“We have also checked for collisions for the past five years and there have been no major issues reported.”
