SHOCK, surprise and staff celebrations - the room was filled with joy and cheers as our winner received this special award.
Any role within a school takes determination and motivation and Kate Evans is the epitome of this.
As a member of the support staff at Great Sankey High School her hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed - she truly is an unsung hero.
Kate takes on a variety of roles daily, and staff and students say that she is the “heartbeat of the school”.

Whether it is providing support for the children or being a helping hand to staff, Kate is the first person to volunteer.
After 27 years at Great Sankey High School, her dedication is unwavering and staff believe there is “no one more deserving” of this award than Kate.
Colleague Alison Hales said: “Kate is one of the kindest people you could meet, nothing is ever too much.
“Her knowledge and tenacity is amazing and if she doesn’t know the answer to a question off the top of her head she will not rest until she finds it out or at least gives you the help needed to find it out yourself.
“Her obvious caring nature shows through when she is dealing with the students.”
Other colleagues praised Kate and her work ethic - she is the “glue of the school” and is passionate, articulate and driven.
She is not only a colleague, but also a friend and as she is the “first person to drop everything” if you need any help or support – “she truly is a great person”.

Deputy head teacher Christina Kane said: “Kate is knowledgeable, approachable and flexible - she will help anybody and goes above and beyond on a daily basis.
“She is so dedicated and hardworking - we really would be lost without her.”

Gary Evans, head teacher, said: “Kate is one of those people who you can depend on no matter what she is asked to do.
“She deals with everything meticulously and is hugely respectful to staff and students and I could not wish for a better role model for others.”
As a collective, staff at Great Sankey High School are proud of Kate and say she represents everything good about education.
