A CAREER criminal got drunk and smashed glass bottles at a bus station.

Stephen McCouid has had his prison sentence extended after admitting to drunk and disorderly behaviour in Warrington.

Prosecuting, Jessica Pridding, told the court on Wednesday (July 3) that McCouid has 60 previous convictions relating to 124 offences.

The 41-year-old was released from custody on May 28 and went into Warrington town centre, where he started drinking outside the Barclays bank.

McCouid had no memory of what happened after that, Ms Pridding added.

It is understood that he began throwing glass bottles around, hitting a window at the Warrington Interchange Bus Station.

McCouid, formerly of Liverpool but now of no fixed address, pleaded guilty on May 30 and returned to Chester Magistrates Court on June 28, where the sentencing was adjourned.

Zoe Keene, defending, said that soon after the second hearing McCouid left Liverpool due to violence against him.

He moved to Wales where he was arrested for two matters of common assault, receiving a 16-week custodial sentence.

She added that her client has issues with alcohol and his mental health but will be looking to move to North Wales permanently upon his release and has been offered accommodation.

Taking all of this into account, the magistrates opted to hand McCouid a two-week prison sentence.

“Your actions could very well have put a member of the public in fear and so this does cross the custodial threshold,” said chair of the bench, James Fawson.

McCouid will also have to pay an £85 surcharge.
