ONE area of Warrington has been with power cuts this afternoon after an 'urgent shutdown'.

Those living in the WA13 postcode area have been hit with electricity blackouts, which are expected to continue into the early evening.

The issue was first reported at around 11.50am.

Scottish Power, who cover large areas of Warrington, stated that due to work in progress to remove trees from the overhead line network in Lymm, an urgent shutdown has been necessary.

Postcode affected include: WA139TU, WA139TX, WA139TY.

A spokesperson for Scottish Power said: "It is necessary for our engineers to carry out an urgent shutdown at 4.00pm to remove trees from the overhead line network and this may affect the supply to your property.

"We will work to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 6:30pm."
