SEVEN members of staff from a care home in Great Sankey raced against another care home to get to the top of Snowdon and raise money for residents.

Staff from Whittle Hall Care Home, on Littledale Road, and Dean Wood Manor in Wigan, decided to come together to help fundraise for their respective care homes.

To do this, the staff members each picked seven people to take part in a race to the top of Snowdon.

On Saturday, the teams travelled to complete the epic challenge, setting off at the same time but taking different paths to see who could make it to the top first.

“We were meant to take a different trail and ended up doing a trail that was a lot harder,” said Samantha Cooper, who works at Whittle Hall.

“It was raining so we all got wet, and it was really really difficult.”

Whittle Hall won the race to the top, taking only two hours and six minutes to reach the peak, whereas the team for Dean Wood Manor took three hours and nine minutes.

In total, the teams raised over £1,000 each for the residents at their care home, with Whittle Hall’s Just Giving Page reaching £1,320.

The money will go towards funding activities for the residents and ensuring they have an enjoyable summer.

While both teams are already considering completing another ‘Home vs Home’ challenge, it seems they might need a rest before they do so.

“We’re still recovering,” said Samantha.

“But we’re definitely up for another challenge.”
