CULCHETH High School celebrated Pride month with its pupils during a dedicated week of events.

The week saw students take part in Pride assemblies, a variety of tutor time and school activities and discussions were had around celebrities who have shaped today’s LGBTQ+ community.

A designated ‘wear your rainbow socks to school day’ allowed students to proudly wear both socks and colourful footwear in celebration of Pride month and to show their support for the community.

Meanwhile an annual Pride bake sale was held at the school, with many students contributing to the baking of wonderful, colourful and delicious cakes, which raised £136 for the school’s Pride Club’s chosen charity ‘Peace in Mind’.

With the bake sale, came a competition for ‘best bake’ and prizes were awarded to some very talented key stage three bakers.

In addition to their dedicated Diversity Week, the school operates a Pride Club all year round, which is open to all students, and provides a safe space to be a part of the LGBTQ+ community.

The Pride Club students take part in many other activities during the year, and one of the students shared what this inclusive space means to them:

A student said: “Pride Club is one of my favourite parts of the week because it is nice to chat and be with friends and feel part of the community.”

A spokesperson for Culcheth High added: “The school is very proud of all students involved in its Pride Day, and thanked those who helped raise funds for the charity or baked cakes themselves.”
