ONE of the bridges crossing Manchester Ship Canal in Warrington was closed this morning, Tuesday.

This came after concerns were raised for the safety and welfare of a man on the structure.

Cheshire Police has confirmed that officers rushed to Cantilever Bridge shortly before 10am and located the man.

Thankfully, he was taken to a place of safety and the bridge was reopened.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “We were called to Cantilever Bridge in Warrington at 9.53am on Tuesday, July 2.

“The caller reported concerns for the safety of a man on the bridge.

“By 10.03am, he was led to a place of safety, the bridge was reopened and officers left the scene.”
